Mumm's Garlic Chives offer a delightful garlic flavor, perfect for garlic lovers. These sprouts are easy to grow and provide a fresh taste that can enhance various dishes. They are a great addition to salads, soups, and sandwiches, adding a unique flavor profile.
Garlic chives are not only flavorful but also packed with nutrients. They offer a unique garlic taste without the pungency of garlic bulbs, making them an excellent choice for those who enjoy the flavor of garlic. These sprouts are versatile and can be mixed with other seeds to create flavorful blends.
Mumm's Garlic Chives are designed for easy sprouting. With a slow start, these sprouts are ready to eat in about 10-13 days. The seeds require a soak time of 4-6 hours and should be stored in cold conditions to maintain their germination ability.
Sprouting Directions:
Soak: Place 1-2 tbsp of seeds in a wide-mouth jar with a sprouting lid. Add water, swirl, and drain. Refill the jar with water and soak for 4-6 hours. Drain well and invert the jar at an angle on a sprouting rack or in a bowl.
Rinse: Twice a day, refill the jar with cold water, swirl, and drain well.
Enjoy: Ready to eat in 10-13 days. The herb hulls are good tasting, so you can harvest earlier if you like the flavor and texture of the hulls. Refrigerate to store. (Sprouts store best when they are fairly dry.)
Helpful Tips:
Microgreens Directions (Soil Method for Small Seeds):
Prepare Soil: Add water to the soil bag 12 hours ahead of use until almost fully hydrated. Ensure the soil is moist, not wet.
Fill Trays with Soil: Use a tray with holes and fill with 3/4-1.5” of soil. Smooth and flatten the soil without compacting it.
Sow the Seed: Sprinkle the seed evenly over the soil. For 1-week microgreens, use approximately 15-28 grams (1.5 – 2 tbsp). Mist if needed to maintain moisture.
Cover the Seed: Use parchment paper, a plastic sheet, or a wet unbleached paper towel to cover the seeds. If not stacking trays, use a dome or lid to protect the seeds from drying out.
Stack Trays or Cover with Lids: Stack 2-5 filled trays on top of each other with a weight on the top tray. Check daily for water needs. Stack for 2-3 days for quick germination.
Expose to Light: After 2-5 days, expose the microgreens to indirect sunlight, fluorescent, or LED grow lights.
Water the Growing Microgreens: Check daily and water as needed. The soil should be moist, not wet. Water from below once trays are unstacked.
Harvest: Microgreens are harvested at 1-3 weeks with scissors or a sharp knife. Ensure microgreens are not damp before storing. Dry with a fan or salad spinner if needed.
Enjoy: Microgreens make everything better, so have fun with them and add them to your favorite dishes!
